THE Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria has in recent times been undergoing lots of infrastrutural make-over under the leadership of Brigadier General Muktar Mohammed Bunza, Commandant of the School. The projects which include COAS Intervention Projects, Commandant's Projects, NITDA Digital Capacity Building Centre, NCC Computer Laboratory, Interventions by Ex-Boys and many more have gradually been giving the school a new look befitting of an important institution of its repute.
"We are aware that some of the buildings are quite old and have not been renovated for a long time. We want our Boys and staff to dwell in environments that are safe, humane and conducive for learning and training for the boys and staff... Certainly, a new dawn has evolved with our deliberate efforts to reposition the Nigerian Military School", Brig Gen Bunza said.
The Commandant further added that the drive by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai and other stakeholders to create a conducive teaching and learning environment have yielded and continue to yield positive results.
Commenting on the renovation and repositioning efforts going on in the school, the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai expressed delight with the level of upgrade of training facilities in the School.
"Let me specially commend the ingenuity of the Commandant to attract interventions from individuals, groups and organizations especially the Ex-Boys for the development of the School", Lt Gen Buratai wrote in a goodwill message published in the school's 2018 edition of "The Junior Leader" magazine. The COAS further stated that this has enhanced the learning and well-being of the Boys and the Staff, and hopes that this initiative will continue and translate into academic excellence and Boys' performances upon their enlistment into the Nigerian Army. "The Army headquarters on its part will support the School in all ramifications to facilitate the training of the Boys", he assured.
Following the precedence set by the Chief of Defence Staff, the Ex-Boys and other institutions have continued to key in to this drive by renovating the Nigerian Military School Cook House and the 7 Company Dining Halls to standard. Accordingly, several individual and sets of Ex-Boys have assisted in the upgrade of facilities in the School. Recently, Ex-Boys of 78/83 Set sponsored the renovation of the Science and Basic Technology laboratories while Ex-Boys of 97/03 Set carried out the renovation of the SS3 Classroom Complex. Other Ex-Boys of 83/88 and 92/98 Sets donated classroom furniture to the School while Ex-Boys of 98/04 Set also donated trophies to the School. The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation constructed and equipped an ultra-modern language laboratory with interactive multi-media board for the Nigerian Military School. Overall, these concerted efforts will surely improve on the quality of training in order to make the Boys refined leaders in the services.
